“You’ll know if you’re going the wrong way because you will die."

amazing!!

I dunno... that's just kinda reverting gameplay design back to the NES isn't it?

Like in Dragon Warrior when you wandred to much and ran smack dab into a Magidrake and were confused why an ugly colored version of a Drakey killed you in one shot.

Plus... what if you really suck, then you'd be really lost!

that's kind of the point though.  as Xen said, difficulty in games is lacking now-a-days (yes portal 2, i'm complaining about you you horrible excuse for a sequel).  i don't want every game to be extreemly difficult but a lot of what make demon souls amazing was the mere fact that it didn't treat you like a idiot that needed to be coddled.  i'm good at video games, like really good.  i completely understand that this isn't going to be for everyone but that sort of what makes it soo great for me.  those that really suck just shouldn't play, simple as that.

You can make a game challenging without needing a players wandering to be deadly.

Yes different difficulty levels is a much better way of doing things...that way players of all skills can play a game.

Games with only one set difficulty level (whether easy or hard) are a really stupid way of going about things.

Not necessarilly, some games pull it off well. (e.g. Grand Theft Auto)

I do admit there are a few who do it well but for the most part different difficulty's is the best way to go about it.
