If an alien mothership entered our atmosphere would we stand a chance in hell of fighting it off? Could even the mighty US Army, Nato, Russia, China could any of us stand a chance seperate or united in a fight against an alien life form? If a species could travel light years to our planet would their technology give them a major edge over anything we have to fight them with? What kinds of stratagies do you think the human race could take to actually fight off an alien invasion? |
First we need to know what their grand strategy is. Is it Total Anihiliation? If so, we don't stand a chance really. Occupation/Extermination (without destroying Earth's natural resources)? Then we can stand a chance.
Of course, there's a lot of open endedness to the scenarios, but the main weakness atackers have is LOGISTICS. This is the biggest key advantage we have. They're invading us, probably from a very distant area. If this is so, we can possibly win a war of attrition. If they run out of fuel, ammunition, or food, then they are defeated. We have to attack their supply lines, and prevent them from replenishing their resources. This is essentially the same thing the Russians did when they were invaved by Napoleon, or what Fabius did when Hannibal invaded Rome: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabian_strategy
We need to attack their supply routes, and we need to avoid a direct confrontation. Guerilla warfare and hiding out is the best thing to do. Pitched battles will only result in our losses and lead to them being moralized.
The rest is really open ended. Maybe their weapons or style of warfare has a weakness. Maybe we can go all War of the Worlds and try biological weapons. But essentially we should be looking back at similar examples where countries were invaded by a superior force.
