Alright so today Peter Mackay Canada's Minister Of Defence announced that the Canadian Forces like the Canadian Air Force, Meritime Command and Army are being renamed. The name being restored to its greatness of over fourty years ago, the Canadian Forces will now be called the Royal Canadian Air Force and Royal Canadian Navy.

"Our Conservative government believes that an important element of the Canadian military heritage was lost when these three former services were required to relinquish their historic titles," - Peter Mackay

Also in his speech he says other Commonwealth countries continue to use Royal in their names of their armies and air force etc...etc... That Canada should respect its historical roots.

Since the Royal Family is the Royal Family of Canada as well it makes sense that our Navy and Air Force return to their Royal origins. But should we really be that aligned with the Queen? Should all Commonwealth countries swear their alligiance to the Royal Family by retaining the Royal name in their armed forces?

Or are we in a new generation? Should we leave the past behind and blaze a path of our own independance?

Do you agree with CommonWealth countries using Royal in all their forces names?
