The only way microsoft would cut the price in the U.S, would be if a $249 PS3 is enough to become a threat as a competitive system stealing a significant amount of market share, that is unlikely though, it'll probably outsell the 360 by a significant amount globally in the short term, but microsoft is doing well at this price, and shouldn't cut yet

Who even are you replying to? No one mentioned anything about this in this thread...

But since you did bring it up, I will reply. Microsoft will cut, and quite frankly, can easily afford to cut $100 and still break even on the console. Expect a moderate few week bump to sales for the PS3 from this $50 cut and a huge surge in 360 sales when their cut comes along.

for the most part I agree with you. While I think this $50 price cut will give a modest boost to PS3 I do however think that MS dropping the X360 in price even to $149 will be very attractive. a $149 HD console is very attractive to customers with not as much money to their name. PS3 will no doubt have a boost but expect a very quick price cut by MS that will eliminate any large sale separation PS3 made from X360 with their price cut.
