1) Google bid 4billion for nortel.
2) Apple only did that with a large group of other massive corporations; MS, Apple, Sony, RIM, and others all joined that buyers group to keep it out of Google's hands.
3) It was only for patents... Google acquired all of Motorola Mobility with its patents (more than Nortel's) as well as all its manufacturing, employees, product lines, etc.
