For the record, I listened to rap a lot as a teenager in the suburds, why?  It was the right level of "active" music to listen to while doing stuff and sounded good.  It just fits perfectly with playing sports like basketball.

As such, I think it's mostly a case of number 2.

#1 was what I was thinking about. #2 doesn't actually explain anything, it's jsut a statement that says young white people have more opportunity to buy rap music than other groups (doesn't explain WHY they'd buy it).

Your personal example gives a pretty valid reason, and I think that maybe why many white suburban youths buy rap music (thore they may be other deeper reasons, that not even the kids themselves are aware of). I didn't listen to rap at all as a teen, but then again I didn't live in the suburbs.

It's quite funny, but when you say 'active music' the first thing that comes to mind is dance music, which is much more popular than rap music over here in Romania (and also in Europe overall). I wonder why you Americans only see dance music as something you'd hear in a gay club.

And I'm pretty sure spy movies aren't made by spies, for spies, exploring genuine spy issues. I'm sure most actual spies find spy movies to be quite laughable.
