Why are you blaming EA? After all they have a lot (if not all) the sports licenses, NBA, football(FIFA), football(Madden), etc. They didn't need the wiimote to sell their sports games.
If you have to blame someone, blame Activision. They don't have any sports license or sports game so the idea of a WiiSports game could be useful for them to expand their audience in a new genre. And they also had experience in making peripherals as the publishers of Guitar Hero.
