You seriously think it's a good thing to buy the game NEW at $20 or even at $1? Let's say the game retail for $60. After factored in all the expenses to get that game to retail for you to buy, let's assume the break even price of the game is $25... Someone has to foot that loses and whoever that is, isn't going to be happy with you buying it for $20 or less. |
You're wrong.
Most of those costs are percentage not fixed cost so everyone is still making money.
A game isn't a finished product made in China that has a high fixed cost to produce.
At most you're talking like 2-3$ of fixed cost in a game you purchase at a retailer, the rest is all individuals entities taking a percentage along the way ( developers get a percentage, publisher if different, gets a cut, distribution companies gets a cut ( the one between the publisher and the retailers), retailers gets a cut and so on...
Why do you think most companies are actually happy when their games sell over a million and make it to the greatest hits ?
Sure everyone makes more money if the game is sold 60$ than 20$ but once a game has reached its potential sales at a given price, it's better to lower the price and still make some money than not do it and kill all sales...
