I agree. It looks stunning but it also looks incredibly scripted and linear. I'm about half way through Metro 2033 right now (Chapter 4) and I like that even though the path to completion is linear, there's a lot of psychological twiddling that goes on between point a and point b. You've got to stay quiet, you've got to conserve ammo, you've got to make sure you have an escape route planned, you've got to be ready for unexpected attacks, and you've got to have the nards to explore for resources. What they've shown doesn't give me the same vibe the first game is giving me. But I'll wait until we see more as I think they're mainly putting out these high-octane scripted sequences to entice that CoD crowd. |
Don't worry. I've been following 4A on twitter and their response about showing the action sequences is reasonable. They wanted to show off the improved gunplay, A.I and stealth. Rest assured, the survival-horror elements are still there. I have faith in these guys.
Also, In my opinion, I find it a bad idea to show off a horror game in any crowded gaming convention like E3. These types of games are better played alone without being surronded by a group of people and spoiled by watching early footage. Hell, most previews of Silent Hill Downpour were a freakin' disaster just because the geniuses at Konami thought it was a great idea to show it off in its early stages in an open convention. I'm still getting the game but you get my point.
