The sideturning should need more speed. Overall, I'm getting used to the controls and the camera, and the gameplay is pretty good especially the summoning part where you sacrificed your life to summon an eidolon. My only gripe right now with this game is the chocobo in the FMV. That poor guy needs to live. 
EDIT: I'm quite impressed with Ace's weapon. He probably has some kind of telekinetic powers using his cards like that.
