Should weaker countries invest more in their militaries?

Why? Becuse they have the best military in the history of mankind and no one dares to throw a rock at them? Great military earns great respect among other countries

Spending a larger portion of your money on military prowess than anything else is not a sign of intelligence.

Its a sign of power

Signing unprecedentedly massive contracts with arms dealers that will mould the future of the countries economy is not a sign of vision.

Its a sign or wealth and stability

Having all that power and using it in the middle east as opposed to Zimbabwe/Rwanda/Ivory Coast etc. all is not a sign of integrity.

Disagree. US military is not oly the most modern and most powerful as well as richest, but also pretty large in numbers, they wouldnt need to go into war with China in 2 years, they would conquer it much quicker

 

Actually a War with China would probably just be a stalemate.  US couldn't invade, while China wouldn't get anywhere near the USA.  The USA would probably "win" in that China would sign a favorable peace treaty, just due to the fact that the US would be bombing the crap outta china, destroying their resources and cutting off all supply lines and China couldn't scratch the US but still... take over China?   No way.

 

The thing about the US Military is, that the US actually gets an investment by spending as much as they do.

We tend to think all the modern miltaries tech wise are about even....

Really the top dollar US Technology is actually miles ahead of other countries in a surprising way.  There are US fighters that could take out entire squadrons of other countries top level fighters.

This can be seen most recently in Libya.  Where the UK and France started a war.... but the US had to go in there and soften up Libya so France and the UK could handle it with no casualties... and even then the US has to provide logisitcal support because our equipment is just that much better.

 

2 years is near enough time to catch up to the US tech.  Well unless the Chinese Governments hacking teams become more successful.
