I saw the movie The Hours years ago (wanted to see the movie for which Nicole Kidman won the Oscar), and I remewmber saying to myself 'this movie should be a book' (whoch is funny, 'cause many people say the opposite after they read a good book). I wasn't surprised to learn that the movie had actually been adapted from a book (of the same name), and I really wanted to read it, but only got around to it now, unfortunately.
The Hours is a very short book. My version had less than 200 pages. I must say that Cunningham is a very pretentious writer (just check out an interview with him), and his style is predicably pompous. Despite this, the book has a sort of sophistication in it's construction, and a sort of charm and fabulousness that manage to redeem it. I definately liked it more than the film, especially 'cause I could actually understand what was happening, and what the characters were thinking/what their motivation was.
