For the most party, systemic discrimination has been completely eliminated in the western world ...

About the only "right" that is being "denied" to gay people in a widespread way is marriage; and more often than not that debate is not about whether homosexual couples should have the same rights as a straight couple, it is about whether the traditions surrounding marriage can be protected. Essentially, it isn't that much different between the debate over a Heterosexual pride parade, because I'm certain that the bulk of complaints over this parade is that the group is taking the name of something that is meaningful to them and warping it into something else.

It would be nice if it was true that discrimination was eliminated here. I live in Cologne/Germany, which is a city with a high percentage of gay inhabitants and is often praised for it's tolerance, which for the most part is true. It's also true that in recent years attacks - verbal and physical - started to rise again. So it's not only the laws that have to change, but also the minds of people. If a group of people try to turn back the advancements of recent years, then the desired standard isn't reached.
