Honestly I don't think Sony could slash its price. The product they have must cost more to manufacture then 3DS and Nintendo said it was barely turning a profit at 250$ now at 169.99$ Nintendo says it will be loosing on every unit sold, that is not something Sony wants to do again. Nintendo is getting desperate and worries that Sony and other devices will kill off their handheld market share. But Sony never was leader and they are in no rush to loose money yet again.
I think the Vita is an expensive handheld and it costs alot to manufacture. Sony isn't about to loose money on every unit just because Nintendo bit the bullet. However I bet if 3DS takes Vita to the bank this winter their tune might change. Obviously they are concerned about how cheap 3DS is now. But they aren't willing to cut price for good reason.
I wonder how Sony will deal with the pressure if Vita crashes at launch this winter!
