Yes it would have been more successful. PSN pretty much matches xbox live in features besides party chat and voice mail which, as someone stated before, may be a negative. Both have games that run on P2P servers. In fact the PS3 has more games that run on dedicated servers than the xbox. People are paying $50 a year because they "think" they are getting a better service even though its pretty much matches PSN which is free. PSN on the PS3 would have also likely got the party chat but there are probably ram issues or something since PS Vita is getting it. Also I think people tend to forget about steam which also has voice chat and chat rooms. If xbox live was free more people would not be hesitant in buying a service that should be free.
