Congratulations.  You've just stumbled upon another d21lewis list.

The dawn of a new age in portable consoles is upon us!  The PSV is on the horizon and the 3DS is in stores right now......but should you ditch your PSP (and if you don't own one, should you buy one?)?  There's a few reasons why you should be playing Sony's little upstart:

1.  Games, games, games!:  It generally takes a new console about a year or more to establish a respectable library.  Who has that kind of time?  The world is going to end next year and you want to have fun, now!  Since it's been on store shelves since 2005 (2004 in the Land of the Rising Sun), the PSP has built up an impressive library of great games in every genre (many of which support online play).  Games like Crisis Core, Metal Gear Solid, Valkyria Chronicles 2, Monster Hunter, Mod Nation Racers, Dissidia, Little Big Planet, Final Fantasy Tactics, etc.  And then there's PS1 games and Minis available on the PS Store if those don't satisfy your gaming itch. There's enough awesome games on the PSP to keep you busy for another five years--or at least until......

2.  New Hardware gets a price drop:  It's not as uncommon as it used to be.  Now, as soon as you buy your new iPod, the price goes down.  Even Nintendo's recently released 3DS has dropped significantly in price (or wil by the time you read this since you probably won't read this until December....).  What's the rush to be an early adopter?  Game droughts, high prices, and poorer libraries?  Who needs the headache?

3.  Remote Play :  You call yourself a Sony fan?  Well then, you already have a PS3.  Why not take adavantage of one of the PS3's most under apprecieated features?  With Remote Play, you can access your PS3 via the PSP from any Wi-Fi hotspot.  You can play any PS1 games you've downloaded to your PS3 as well as watch movies from the hard drive, use the PS3's web browser (for porn, of course), and more.  It's a feature that was ahead of its time.

4. Multi-Media Sensation: With verylittle know-how, you can put music and movies on your PSP (did I mention the porn?).  The screen is a little easier on the eyes than your smart phone since it's pretty big.  The music player is among the best in the business, too.  It automatically classifies the music you're listening to into genres.  AND, there's internet radio right out of the box.  Not bad, huh?  The PSP also has a great library of digital comic books if that's your sort of thing.  The interface is better than that of my smartphone.  Trust me on this one.

5.  Skype me, baby!:  PSP supports it.  Not even a certain new portable console with new-fangled 3D technology has this.  Reach out and touch someone with your PSP.  It's simple and easy.  Just be sure to use headphones.

6.  Porn:  I can't stress this enough.

7.  Graphical powerhouse:  Okay.  I know the PSV and the 3DS edge the PSP out in this category.  Still, look at games like Resistance Retribution, Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker, or Gran Turismo.  These games still look great by anybody's standards.  And, as mentioned in earlier points, they're available right now--and they're cheap.

8.  It's like a nut you can play....on your TV:  There's a ton of awesome peripherals that you can buy for your PSP but one of the best is the PSP component cables.  It's not just a portable, it's a full fledged home console.  Yeah, it's not as pretty as your shiny PS3 but you can actually hook a PSP to your television.  Use the PSP as a controller and when somebody walks in, you can just switch back to using the portable. Imagine it's a Wii U or somethin--you're living in the future!!

9.  Keeps the Marcus away:  Okay, I admit it.  I'm running out of gas, here.  But think of this:  When the PSP was selling poorly, Sony release Marcus PSP on the world.  Now, the PSP is consistently selling very well around the world.  Coincidence?  I don't think so.  If you don't want Sony to let Marcus out of his box again, I suggest you buy a PSP.  Step your game up, people!!

10:  The little things:  Little things like being able to customize your themes, being able to connect to/store more than three wireless hotspots at a time (I'm looking at you, 3DS), share purchased content with a PS3, good battery life, ability to share content with other devices (including an Xbox 360!), and blue tooth support (PSP Go, only) make the PSP a device worth owning.  In all of the excitement of what's to come, don't neglect what we already have.
