I don't think the kid should spend the rest of his life paying for one mistake that ultimately didn't kill or seriously injury anyone, but he definitely shouldn't get off with just a slap on the wrist either. Hopefully the courts will think of a punishment that will make it worth his while not to repeat this incident, but won't turn him into something of a career criminal either.
Btw, do I understand correctly that the "child pornography" they produced was basically two 16 olds fucking, and a third 16 year old filming it? That's still bad, but I don't think it should be judged anywhere near as harshly as CP generally is.
