I would like to say that where it concerns the music industry I actually have less sympathy.  The pirating in that industry had a lot more to do with them failing to move into a viable market before smart individuals figured it out.  In fact I would go so far as to say that the reason piracy is mainstream today is due to them dragging their feet in regards to getting into MP3 download services.  People turned to it because they wanted it and the fact that it was free was secondary for a lot of people.

Piracy would be a negligable minority if not for this early mainstreaming of the affair.  

 

To be clear that doesn't justify pirating, but it does give me pause before I get all teary eyed over lost music revenue from an industry I still think is way way overpriced.
