I think these figures ultimately paint a bleaker picture for the 3DS thus far, it's being heavily outsold against the DS despite the DS itself having a pretty unspectacular launch (Evenish with PSP I think?) until the DSlite remodel + key software. Early demand is pretty worrying for the device imo, but a $249 price tag was always going to be a stretch.

Treading back into old generations numbers does help remind us though this thing is a marathon and not a race. The 3DS can recover but thus far I think it's very difficult to take any positives. We should get a decent idea of how important software is this christmas, and whether $170 is still too much of a price for the 3DS.

I still see the thing struggling at $170 though, I think the thing needs software that can have the same sort of impact that Brain Training, Nintendogs, NSMB's did for the DS and thus far I've not seen that in what they're making for the 3DS. I think Nintendo have lost their direction a bit so far with the 3DS - they've plenty of time to make software to turn things around though... but they can't afford to give Sony a sniff either.
