I really don't think anyone thinks the only reason ps3 is ahead in japan and europe is the brand factor, you know that extended warrenty that didn't even cover all 360 failures in NA, most of the rest of the world didn't even get that, also 360 exclusives often don't get localized and xbl isn't even on par with psn in alot of the world (but they still have to pay), there are actually alot of places where you can get psn but you can't get xbl, MS is doing very little to appeal to people outside of NA and Sony has been doing alot for awhile

Then if NA is only serviced, why the success in Britain? Also, everybody knows that Japan generally has xenophobia, their disregard for Xbox is not even new to this generation. Last gen they came out with a few exclusive RPGs for that region and it still selled poorly. I could give you leeway on EU but not Japan.

and again MS advertised a ton last year and had more advantages over ps3 last year then this one, and they still only tied so I don't see how they can win this year with less advantages

A big difference this year is that this will be the 2nd year for Kinect. Word to mouth has spread from 1st-generation buyers so unsure clients will have friends and families as a reference for the purchse. Also MS as a business is going more aggressive on the casual business, so it should transpire through marketing and ultimately in sales.

The world is bigger then NA, UK and japan you know, and if Japan is so xenophobic why is apple doing so well there? the UK is the place MS serves the best next to USA, and I'm pretty sure japan didn't get the extended warrenty, and I know non major countries didn't get it who the hell would buy a system that is more likely to break then not and it be full price to replace each time? And live is a joke in japan too, MS gives japan bum deals when it comes to the xbox it's no surprize it doesn't do well

Your assuming word of mouth is going to be all good, people bought kinect on hype and promises, MS still hasn't made good on alot of those promises and this time people won't be buying as blind, there is no way kinect will sell more this year then last and they advertised more agressively last year and still didn't win

I know. That's the point I was trying to make, is that MS is successful in NA and UK despite what you were saying at first, that they were servicing NA more than the others. And moreover, I was trying to show that the reason of lower performance in those countries was more anti-american sentiment on most non-britain countries. It's a known fact especially since the long gone (thank God) Bush administration. I don't even live there and I know it exists. Remember Freedom Fries and all that crap?

Anyway, the Europeans don't either seemed as interested in MS' main market (FPS'), the reason being that they are more into constructive games like sports, simulators (not war), arts, party, arcade and stuff. The proof is in the sales of those other European markets (check the charts).

Anyway, all that to state the obvious, that even though MS has not made as much headway in those regions, it is still kicking butt. As a far second in the race last generation, they've made huge progress, I think most people forget that.

Yes, I'm assuming word of mouth is going to be all good, because that's what happened with the Wii. Did it have anything more than Wii Play and Wii Sports when it came out? I don't remember that being the case. It still managed to be out of stock almost everywhere in the world.

As for Japan, Apple is the exception, not the rule.

You missed a keyword of mine, most, I said most of the rest of the world UK is one of the exceptions, MS only cares about the bigger markets and it shows in their support alot of places get the shalft from MS and the anti american sentiment has no more effect then anti japan sentiment in US people just use it as an excuse when really it's MSes policies and lack of suport

MS has atlot of those games on their system some exclusive

Compared to last gen they are doing better, but the fact remains they are essentially tied for second, if you factor in the extra year ps3 edges 360 out in almost everything , but I don't like comparing to last gen, people seem to have the misguided notion that install bases carry over gens when that couldn't be farther from the truth, MS is doing well but they aren't kicking anyones butt

Wii games are better then kinect games, and people already have a wii so they might not want a kinect, plus wii was cheaper on launch then 360 is now nevermind 360+kinect

What other NA buisnesses do badly in japan other then MS?
