You do realise that a lot of things rely upon the magnetic poles. Aircraft/ships/satilites would all be out of action until we get things sorted.
Additionally, any significant flucuation in the magenetic poles would disrupt power generation and also knock out any electromagnetic communications. So no TV, radio, internet, etc...
There is also evidence that magnetic flucuations can disorentate animals and kill insects.
While I don't think that geomagenetic reversal would be the end of humanity, it definitely would set us back a bit in progresses. I also severly doubt the next one will be in 2012, and will most likely not occur within our current lifetimes, so no one here has to worry about it :P
