Shitstorm incoming.

If MS release the next Xbox in 2013 I also think it is possible that PS3 will go ahead. But it could go either way, depending on MS and Sony's movements.

i dont see why.

if you read all of the analysis shown and not just the headline (which is a very curious one... "contender"?  that analysist is an idiot and needs English lessons) its all very balanced and actually debunks the replacement 360's bollocks we always hear particularly in these forums.

"Contender to take second place" as in "when everything is said and done" as in "the race is not over yet"

But you seem upset

once more... Im not arguing with that that!  I am just saying his use of words is silly.

He should just have said, the PS3 could take second place, which i agree with..

The use of the word contender is wrong.    ONLY the PS3 can "TAKE" second place.

Perhaps its just some american messing up the English language again?  I dunno...

It's not really silly TBH.  Contender is often used with only 1 contender - for example in boxing their is the champ and the contender.  I'd imagine the word contender was used directly to evoke that type of competition - the 360 is in second place and the PS3 has entered the ring as the contender to take second place from it.

You don't need multiple contenders to use the word, it's used with only one contender too.  Just saying.  It is redundant but not without precedent basically.

On topic it's been obivious for a while both the PS3 and the 360 are very close now, and that each could end up in second place depending upon when the next consoles launch, how long the consoles are kept on the market, final price cuts, whether Kinect has another big spike or not, etc.  Coupled with the PS3 slightly edging the 360 WW at the moment it's hardly a big leap for analysts to slightly pick it as taking second place.

TBH, assuming Sony can extend the PS3 into emerging markets as they have the PS2 I'd argue that, unless there is a huge swing over holiday 2011, the PS3 probably will end up in second as it should have a better tail than the 360 globally, which is more dominant in the US where sales should drop more quickly when new consoles arrive.  So if things continue as they are the extra tail outside the core markets should give the PS3 a very late victory at some point.

The question is will it matter by the time it happens and how will the market for the next MS and Sony console look?  I think who ends up in second may seem like an anti-climax when all is said and done myself.  The implications for the industry of this gen seem pretty clear now, and I think which HD console marginally edges the other worldwide isn't going to be of that much interest (apart from to certain fanfolk).

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
