Sony really should have dedicated more memory to the PS3. The system only uses 256 MB compared to the 360's 512 MB.

I'm not going to quip about what runs better or looks better on which system because I own both the PS3 & 360... and to be honest, I can't tell a difference.

The PS3 has 512 MB RAM too though it is split between VRAM and system RAM.

  • 256MB XDR Main RAM @3.2GHz
  • 256MB GDDR3 VRAM @700MHz

The 512MB unified RAM setup of X360 gives developers more ways to work with the RAM though, and 3rd parties do like that.

Even last gen, the Gamecube had more total RAM than the PS2 (43 MB total non-unified RAM vs. 32 MB RAM for the PS2) but the GC only had 24 MB main system RAM and that caused some problems when porting games.
