While Nintendo's track record isn't perfect, the Gamecube wasn't a new concept, just a new console. By new concepts, I mean introducing a new variant that delivers new experiences or interactions. Things like an analogue stick, touch-screen, mic, motion controls. Nintendo almost always shows ingenious ways to use these new devices. Sony strikes me more (in this case) as being fortunate to have a similar set-up, rather than years of toying with ideas, games and uses for it. And your Eyetoy reference doesn't help your case: Eyetoy launched in what, 2003? And Kinect has already matched its sales in less than a year? Not a strong argument for Sony's ability to make their concepts irresistible... And finally, no, they don't have games today that do everything that Wii U is talking about. Some things, sure, but while things like Ruin look cool, it's certainly not the same as streaming a full, ground-up PS3 game (like Uncharted 3 or Last Guardian) flawlessly to a hand-held screen where the two can interact with each other. Ps3/Vita would certainly have some advantages over Wii U as well, not the least of which is having an actual portable console to take with you, but It's the streaming method that Wii U is touting where I think Nintendo will be the victor. |
We don't know. I never had said we do. We also don't know how much the Wii U will cost. I'm just stating it may be more expensive than many would like to believe especially given it's expensive controller, Nintendo loving making a margin, and the weak dollar.
Did dual analog not become the industry standard? Does Wii U even bear that layout? Have we yet to see Nintendo stream a full, ground up Wii U game flawlessly to the handheld screen where the two can interact with each other?
Sony hasn't marketed any of their peripherals with half billion dollar budget nor bundled it with most of the consoles sold either(Finding an Eyetoy game in America was downright difficult). Kinect is obviously not doing nearly as well in the EMEAA compared to America and I believe this is because they have seen this type of playstyle before.
In Japan having the portable to take with you might be seen as an advantage. It's great you feel differently but you can't help but admit that Sony have shown more and I've even seen more content coming from 3rd parties for them than Wii U. In those tangible things my trust feels better placed.
