If you're asking me, then yes, being apart made want to be with her. But it was also annoying and stressing, there's a point where you stop feeling you are with her, it's some face on a computer screen with no effect on your everyday life.
When we started our relation her visa was about to expire. So she went back to Japan. For three months I couldn't see her. Then I went to Japan for two months on holidays/visiting, and it was awesome. Then I came back and she was meant to come with me in a couple of months, but there were some complications and it took her six whole months. That was really bad. Six months is the absolute limit you can keep a relation like that. After that it's like you don't have a relation anymore.
Anyway, it depends on your personality whether you want to spend time with her or not. Some people like spending more time with their couple than others. My gf for example needs quite a lot of space to be alone. She doesn't even meet friends often (almost never in fact), but she likes spending time home alone or going to cafés alone, etc. Me, I like spending time with her, but I respect her opinion so I have no problem.
So being apart for long doesn't guarantee wanting to be with her forever. You want to spend more time with her at the beginning, but when you get used to the relation it goes back to normal again.
Maybe you didn't like her much, or maybe you're just like that. You should be able to tell though. If you have your doubts then there is probably someone better I guess.
