Yes. The PS3 and Vita integration could do all the things Wii U do.

The problem is the games to support it... in Wii U every game will support it... but every game will support PS3 and Vita integration? I guess not.

Yeah for example we have historical evidence of how well third party multiplatform games supported sisaxis ;)

You have a pretty good point.  I'm goin guess for the first year or so, not many 3rd parties are going support the WiiU to its fullest.  Graphics will be minimally upgraded and the tablet controller will mostly be used for navigating menus/inventories.

To those saying it will cost twice as much for a PS3 and a Vita, I think your underestimating how much Nintendo will be asking for the WiiU.  I'm going to be guessing that the WiiU will launch for $350-$400.  The controller alone looks like it would retail for well over $100, let alone the system.  And Nintendo likes to sell its system for a profit.  Before the WiiU launches, I can see Sony dropping the PS3 to $200.  Now add a $250 Vita and you get $450.  So in all likelihood, the WiiU may end up only being $50 less than a PS3/Vita combo.  Which for that extra $50, you get a multi-touch screen, as well as true portability.
