when you shoot a explosive at a object, depending on said object you want object to have some effect caused upon it. Its natural instinct from watching all those action movies. So destructible environments are needed to benefit the immersion of being a solider. Also the fact is that its cool to destroy stuff, and that is wired into every males brain some greater than others.
