The Vatican gets immunity because it's a sovereign country, and so representatives of the Vatican retain diplomatic status in nations that respect that sort of thing (which is basically everyone)
However that doesn't mean all representatives of the Catholic Church have immunity, not by a long shot, but the guys at the top have as much immunity from prosecution as every foreign leader, from petty crimes to crimes against humanity

I remember what i remember, which was drinking wine regularly at communion at the parish where i received first holy communion. When i switched parishes as a pre-teen, the new place didn't have it, but the wine was there before then...
It probably varies from diocese to diocese, or from parish to parish
