So Master Chief was a great character because we could imagine we were him? How is that different from any of the other mute, personality free characters we play in any other FPS? I pretended that I was the guy from BioShock, too. Guess what? They had the exact same personality. Being a blank slate doesn't make a character great/beloved. It improves the immersion but when it's all said and done, I'm not marveling over how Master Chief overcame his fear of heights or whether he reconciled with his father or anything.
