What about Gears 2 vs MGS4? MGS4 wiped the floor with Gears 2 (more than double the votes) but both sold very closely.
Note: I'm not insinuating anything. I couldn't care less what wins and what doesn't. I just like discussing my view on games and respecting others'. Maybe I'll learn something about a game that I played but missed a big part of it through these discussions. It could only help my enjoyment of games that I've played and make me want to go back to them. Just curious what your take on what happened there as you've always got some reasonable points to explain regular occurrences and anomolies

It's not just about the sales.
Gears of War 2 is a far more accessible game than MGS4, MGS4 is a very hardcore game, you only ever find hardcore gamers on websites like VGChartz.
Not only that, but the game was excellent.

Just what I was going to say. I meant to cover the MGS4 vs Gears 2 but that's pretty much it. You're putting an online, more casual (in terms of likliyhood to bother voting for it) fanbase vs a hardcore fanbase for the 4th installment of a very fiercly followed franchise. TBH I think Gears 2 vs Uncharted 2 would have been a more interesting contest than against MGS4.
I think part of the issue with this H2H for exclusives is that outside of Halo and perhaps Gears I just don't think there's a core franchise for 360 that has a heavy, dedicated fanbase. Mass Effect is multi-platform now and was on PC anyway, for example, Bioshock is multi now, etc. Really I think if you take a step back and look at the libraries and franchises its pretty obvious for the big guns which way the voting is going to go.
That's why I think it'd be better to pitch lesser known titles against each other.

Gears 2 wouldn't have gotten much votes. It would have died against Uncharted 2. Heck even MGS4 would have died from Uncharted 2. I need something from the 360 that can match up with Uncharted 2. Uncharted 2 seems to kill everything.

True. Uncharted 2 really seems to get support to match its critical praise and position as the big new playstation IP. I'm actually surprised Gears 2 doesn't get better support in polls given its sales and the building hype for Gears 3.
