LOL! these guys (Especially Gaga and Bowie) say this crap to sell records, nothing more and nothing less. P.T. Barnum said it best with "There's a sucker born every minute". If you are a counter-culture musician, what better way to get legions of kids to idolize and basically worship you is to adopt a crazy stage persona and say crazy crap in interviews. David Bowie did this all the time, like when he came back from living in Germany dressed as a Nazi, it got folks talking and re-ignited his career.
