Now, we still don't know which are the basic needs for life to form, and even on our own planet we have found that life can appear on some unimaginable places. But the harder the conditions are, the simpler the life form is. So it's more probable to find bacteries or other life forms based on unicellular beings.

that's the problem of thinking about life.people too much look about life on earth.Hostile for us don't meen hostile for them.Eventualy they can look on Earth and say "how can you live in so hostile enviroment with toxic oxygen, water and such temperatures? You humans are screwd"

Don't forget that probably there are 500mln planets similiar to Earth in terms of temperatures only in our galaxy.I believe there are many many  alien species in our galaxy and i supose that they can be so diffrent that Mass Effect Rakni,Virtual Inteligence,Hanars or Elcors aren't exeptional.
