You can't will something to be true. First, you must state why sales equate measurable quality (which is an oxymoron) - which I contest that you cannot. The only true statement that you could unambiguously say that is remotely close -but still very different- to what you state, is "More people thought that this particular game was worth their money." The reasoning behind those thought could be quite numerous ranging from the obscure: "I like Mario" to the very specific: "I played at a friend's house and the level design was incomprable."

I find it truly bizarre that you attribute only one aspect of a product - quality - to its success or lack thereof. As if timing, brand, cultural fads, marketing, image, peer influence have nothing to do with a product's fate. Had Twillight been written two hundred years ago (or any point in literate history for that matter) in the exact same form that it is now, do you believe it'd be as successful as it is today relative to today's novels? Surely it would if it were simply based on quality, as you state. Perhaps not the best example, I know, but equating quality with the willingness of people to spend money is incredibly simplistic; ignoring far too many other variables.

And a collective of opinions do not form fact. Subjectivity is all we have to go by. It's the only condition on which we can measure quality (for most aspects of a medium).
