Indeed. The only objective measures of quality are money spent and units sold, and the biggest console game developer in the world by those measures is Wii-exclusive. This thread is pretty obvious, really. Not sure WTF metacritic is doing in there. |
It's true that they are the only objective measures, but they are, however, unreliable. Transformers 2 may have sold the most tickets in the box office and yielded the most revenue in the past decade (I haven't a clue if it actually has) but few would subscribe to the idea that it was the best movie of the past decade - a safe assumption, I'd imagine given user feedback.
Making the conclusion that something is 'best' by using the the only objective metric we have is tempting, sure, but it is fallacious. There's no doubt that there is a correlation between quality and sales, but it's impossible to quantify as qualification is subjective (for the most part - excluding graphics, physics, sound, AI, etc - all aspects I'm sure few of contribute as to solely constituting what is actually better, but are no doubt factors for many).
@ the post you quoted: "Sure, you could claim that the 360 and PS3 have better exclusives, but you would be wrong. Other than pure subjectivity you would have nothing to back it up."
All you actually need is subjectivity. It would be pointless to make any general factual statement regarding the topic.
