I don't see it dyeing anytime soon. It has too many fans that buy each yearly sequel. The only way someone could kill COD is if Activision completely fucks MW3 up. Bad metascores, terrible support, everything. It won't die at the hands of Battlefield unless people from DICE hold people from IW/3arc hostage. It just won't happen.
One thing that could badly affect the franchise is the popularity of FPS next gen. If the genre as a whole starts to sink, COD will sink as well.
