Console gaming is dying. Not because of Ipad or anything like that though, because it becomes more and more like PC. About 10 years from now consoles and computers will be the exact same thing again, more or less. This of course does not mean they will be gone, just means that Playstation, Xbox etc, will be seen as computers and not as gaming consoles.
So whats the difference? Well today PCs are the the most advanced platform, but also the one where least games are sold (cause of piracy). In the future they will all be as advanced as you want them to be. You will be able to use them for anything you can do with a PC today even pay bills. As for games most will be online games. And the DRM is gonna be 10 times worse than todays games and every game will be 100% digital. You probably need to be signed to a server to even access the games (even single player)for starters.
