Apple and those that develop for their devices want to see console gaming die. So they are wishfully thinking and like to brag all the time. Phil Harrison's recent statement that within ten years Apple will own the games industry is hilarious. These iOS developers have their heads in the cloud.
Apple would need to drastically change its way of doing things to over take Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. Not only would they need first party content they would need to drastically cut prices and go mainstream with a console. Even then Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft would put up one hell of a fight to maintain their marketshares.
Do I think the I-Pad and I-Phone could hurt handheld sales? Yes I do but they certainly are not going to run Nintendo or Sony out of town. Then they are not a threat to home consoles, if Apple wants to take over gaming within 10 years they would need to invest in a powerful game device and some big budget first party titles. This isn't going to happen within ten years.
The developers of Angry Birds are hilarious they talk about the end of console gaming. But they desperatly want to release Angry Birds on WiiWare and other console networks. If consoles are so dead why do they want their game to be on a console so badly?
