I don't know why people always say that Nintendo is just playing catch up with Wii U. Isn't Wii the top selling system this Gen...or am I wrong?

Probably because the Wii didn't have the horse power to compete with the 360 / PS3 graphically. Shallow as it may seem, graphic matter to a lot of core gamers, speaking from someone who consider himself a shallow 'core' gamer of course.
