They should swallow their pride and use the modern fixes for the games if they want to sell them again; unfortunately, I don't think that squeenix have the common sense to do this.

Some how I don't think that SE Japan understand the PC mod comunity if they even know of it's existance, and I don't think the western arm would be able to swing it without Japan's OK

They definitely know of its existence. Squeenix's IPs have been found browsing the qhimm forums many times. They also seem to be giving their tacit consent, seeing as they haven't tried to shut the projects down.
