Well... it depends on the games available. If they have enough good games (and it might since it'll be a few months after the Japanese and hopefully North American launches) then it could work. 3DS didn't and still doesn't have enough games.
Although both are backwards compatible it seems like people want new shiny games to go with the new shiny toys.
