'So? Hey, Leave it!' should have been followed by explaining to them that being in jail isn't as fun as they think.
It's not the parents fault that their 15 year old kids should know better. Basic reason and logic should do that and I believe that the whole 'they are only children' thing is gone out of the window once you start committing crimes on your own. There are many instances when even a good kid does something stupid or 'naughty' mind you, even if the parents were good. (Friend mentality is one, doing things because your friend(s) are doing it).
That said, bad parenting can produce worse kids. Arrogance is one of the worst traits to see in kids passed down by adults.
