Yah I don't know about the US but here in Canada if your under eighteen your a minor. I know of students who were like 17 having sex with 15 and 14 year olds. It was common knowledge they were dating and made out in the halls all the time. The police didn't go out and investigate them and charge the 17 year olds. Because hell they are both minors irrisponsable children how can you possibly charge two minors having consentual sex? Infact I remember hearing about the 8 and 12 year old who became parents. Now sure if the seventeen year old had sex with a five year old that would be different. But 15 and 17 isn't that much of an age difference its completely understandable.
The police are just playing along with the public's outrage. The public is pissed so the police are taking action. I'm sure their are hundreds to thousands of cases of seventeen year olds having sex with fifteen year olds. Its not that uncommon!

IIRC in Canada, 14 and 15 year olds can have a consensual sexual relationship with people up to 4 (or maybe 5) years older than them. 16 year olds can have a relationship with anyone, provided the person they are with is not in an authoritative position over them. 18 year olds can have a relationship with anyone. I'm going by memory though, so I might be off on something.

Yah I think your right. I couldn't remember the law exactly. But I know of a few cases where fourteen year olds were in relationships with 17-18 year olds and nothing was done about it. Also I don't think anything should. Their all minors though when I was eighteen I decided not to date anyone younger then me, but its not illegal and the police wouldn't throw a minor in jail for having sex with another minor like two years younger then them. Thats just radiculous!
