anon wasn't selfish for attacking the service for their own benefit

Not responding to the actual point of this thread until this line is deleted. That you think this was done for personal gain just shows that you need to do more reading about the topic.

If you're actually interested in learning. This was done so that next time Sony are considering things like suing geohotz, they will decide against it. it is the opinion of the hackers behind it that geohotz was doing nothing wrong, that he was helping people re enable features that Sony had promised them and that consumers as a whole will be better off because of this. You can argue that the cost outweighs the benefit, and I shall not disagree with you. but to argue that it was done for selfish reasons is quite simply incorrect.

actually i know this issue fairly well i know all of the reasons that they try to use to justify their actions

"it is the opinion of the hackers behind it that geohotz was doing nothing wrong" agreed and as a result they attacked the network and by extension the innocent customers who used it to get even with sony and also to raise awareness of their cause ( benefit )

"he was helping people re enable features" lol like linux? do you know why linux was even removed in the first place? because geohot tried to undermine the security of the console through linux which of course sony didn't want to allow and as a result it was removed... he was then sued when he posted keys online that could be used to unlock the console for piracy and cheating online

geohot has been nothing but a bane to the ps3 community as a whole and thats my opinion

edit : btw you seem to be implying that apart from benefit for themselves that anon also wanted benefit for consumers... if thats the case please explain how taking down psn and other free services provided to consumers can be beneficial for them

If you honestly believe that this hacking was done to 'get even and to raise awareness of their cause' then there is nothing I have to say to you. This is not meant in a spiteful way, it is just that your perspective of this situation is so coloured by your positive feelings for Sony as to make dialogue impossible.

ok then what was it done for? i'm open to your opinion

I am also on this boat. I am curious to know what the "great knowledgeable one" has to say about this. Bottom line is that as a consumer who is enjoying the service I find it really annoying. I am not a keyboard cowboy and I will say straight out that meeting an anon or lulsec member will make me happy to cause physical harm. As a matter of fact here is my address 48-46 47th st, woodside ny, apt 3E, feel free if you are anon or lulsec because I am aching for some instant gratification. *disclaimer I apologize if I went overboard mods, if you feel the need to omit anything then do so.

well... no response i guess it must be...
