Turn off dynamic contrast and set the regular contrast setting to the exact midpoint (Is it 1-100? set it to 50. Is it -100 to +100? Set it to 0)

Still see black shadows? Just turn off all contrast enhancing.

"Contrast" is marketing speak for "shitty image quality". It looks better if you have poor eyesight, or just cast a glance at a TV in a shop, or have a really, really small screen.

What it does is exactly what you describe: it adds a black shadow to the edges of objects.
