Maybe there is a reason for low numbers of announcement of really new games for PS3/360.
Isn't it possible that Sony and MS know that this generation will end soon? Perhaps late 2012 both will introduce new systems.
MS has indeed not enough IPs (or use them). And this not good for 360.

I'm feeling the same thing, but releasing a Halo or Killzone makes sense to do it now. New systems doesn't sell much softweare, but as we can see from DS, even that late Pokemon sold excellent.

My theory is that in fall 2013 a 360 successor and PS4 will be released. MS only has Call of Duty map pack exclusivity for 2012's Call of Duty, I feel there is a reason for it.

Perhaps the successor arrive earlire. 30 more months seem to be a very long period.

At 360 the Gears-Trilogy ends this year, Halo ended and gets a new start next year. These are the typical exclusive series for the 360.

Wouldn't it be possible that Halos new trilogy will also start on the successor? I can't see why sony and ms should wait one more year than nintendo did.

MS now wants to be attractive to casual gamers, too. But maybe this won't be enough to have a safe future (profit, market share)
