I'll tell you right now a regular mic would lead to so many voice control errors just like endwar. This is not a good way to do voice technology, Kinect is perfect because of the way it adapts to everyone specific speech pattern and accent.
Plus like others have said it has a multi-array mic and noise cancellation built-in.
