I'm for it as a stopgap measure until we get nuclear fusion. I have no faith in other renewables. It should be new plants though, not extending the life of older designs, because safety is the most important aspect. We should accept a rise in electricity costs to do this.
Nuclear power is as safe as it needs to be, it's just we can't accept continuous production of waste due to the increasing risk. So if we limit it to 20 years then switch off, that should be acceptable.
