3rd parties had abandoned Nintendo long before Wii. Though it was not intended to be so, Wii was a big middle finger to them for years of screwing Nintendo over, and well-deserved |
I remember when I first saw the announcement of the Nintendo Wii. My first thought was honestly, "Ok, Nintendo is shooting themselves in the foot! Motion controls? A controller that looks like a TV remote? Really?". But I was definitely proven wrong over time. Even though Nintendo closed the door for the most part to 3rd party developers they hit a hugely popular chord. I had been so caught up in core gaming that I never stopped to think a casual crowd could be attracted to video games. I have to hand ti to Nintendo. The Wii is one of the most clever inventions I have witnessed. albeit Im still hardcore at heart, but their success was a huge suprise to me. Even at this moment Im still trying to wrap my brain around the focus of Wii U. It will be interesting to see its uses when the full reveal for the system is shown.
