Sony - Sony Hacker Arrested - View Post

@oldschoolfool

Guilty as charged I am a terrible downer. Yeah shame on me for actually giving a damn about the safety of fellow gamers. Who think that what they do not know cannot harm them, or pretend that sticking their heads in the ground will mean that the danger will pass. You know who else are probably downers your family, friends, and civil servants. How dare they bring you down by pointing out real dangers. After all nobody has ever gotten seriously hurt by being happy and stupid?

Sony security isn't improving. Instead it is actually crumbling before our eyes. With sixteen successful hacks, and the number increasing on almost a daily basis. How could any of us have doubts that everything is a bed of roses. I mean it isn't as if the hackers have actually gotten better at hacking Sony. Oh wait they have. Now they are sharing system source code openly, and providing system network maps. Surely nobody can use this knowledge to ill ends right. I mean it isn't like this is a key that might allow scores of hackers to modify code that is already in the system. Things like Viruses, and Trojans those are all make believe right.

I know you think I do not understand how you feel. Sadly I know exactly how you feel. That doesn't justify lashing out at anyone who is just telling the truth. I am not saying you should be apathetic, and I can understand why you may want to delude yourself. These things however aren't going to do you a lick of good. Feelings will not in the end will not keep you from being swept out to sea. Being prepared is your only good option.

Look I am just going to come out and say this. Sony is losing this war, and with all the inroads that the hacking community is making into the Sony infrastructure. Eventually they are going to score critical hits beyond propaganda victories. This isn't conjecture even if it somehow manages to stay on that side of the equation. Eventually trust in the company is going to collapse. Right now Sony is on the edge. Eventual these failures are going to compound one another, and the situation is going to go super critical.

Sony needs time to lick its wounds, and to replace its defenses. Speaking as a consumer if you really care about this company. Trying to protect them by downplaying the problem isn't going to help. Get a petition going that asks Sony to take down all unsecured websites until such a time that they can be secure. Frankly Sony shouldn't need to be told to do this. They are just falling into the same trap many of their fans are falling into. A loss of face is not in fact worse then a permanent loss of credibility. There is a magical number here, because it is developing quickly. Twenty hacks over a few years is one thing. Twenty hacks in under two months that is a whole other beast.
