I can see it happening. Heck, it happened with me already. And anyway, it hardly matters if the PS3 gets those crowds; they make up decidedly less than the market majority. MGS? The strongest entry in the series sold about 6 million at best; all of 5% of PS2 owners got MGS3. FF? The best-selling one was sub-10mil way back on the PS1, and the numbers have been steadily declining since; the most popular on PS2 was FFX at just under 8 million (about 6.6% of PS2 owners, in other words). GTA? Almost 16 million sales on PS2 for its most popular incarnation, but that's not even 20% of the people who bought a PS2 that got that game as well (more like 13.3%).
These games sell well enough, and can be termed system sellers in the sense that they will draw fans of their respective series, but that doesn't account for the massive numbers of other systems sold that went to people who never bought those games.
